STUDENT BROUGHT A TOY GUN TO FLETCHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OFFICIALS CONFIRM

A student recently brought a toy gun to school to show off to classmates, a Henderson County Public Schools (HCPS) spokesperson confirms.

The Fletcher Elementary School student reportedly brought the toy gun to school in a backpack and took it out to show others as they boarded buses after class.

The situation was “immediately resolved” according to the district Student Code of Conducta spokesperson wrote to News 13 in an email.

“Safety is our top priority, and any reference to a weapon – toy or otherwise – is taken seriously and responded to immediately,” HCPS public information officer Molly McGowan Gorsuch wrote.

Fletcher Elementary School principal Tammy Deaver sent a message to parents explaining the incident. She said school officials were told the student apparently made a reference to bringing another toy gun to school the next day.

“While I am unable to share additional details about this incident due to student confidentiality, I want to assure each of you that the safety of all Fletcher students is our primary concern,” Deaver said. in the message.

Hello, this is Tammy Deaver, Principal of Fletcher Elementary School. I’m calling you this afternoon to let you know about an incident that happened today at school. A student brought a toy gun to school in his backpack and showed it to other students as they were kicked out of class to board buses. The student also reportedly made reference to bringing another toy gun to school tomorrow. As is always the case, I worked closely with our School Resource Manager and the school administration team to immediately investigate and respond to this incident. While I am unable to share additional details about this incident due to student confidentiality, I want to assure each of you that the safety of all Fletcher students is our primary concern. Again, as your child’s principal, I wanted you to be informed and assured of our care for every child in our school.
