Police say they recovered a dune racing toy car that was stolen from two children by a woman while the children were playing at a Libertyville school last month.

The Libertyville Police Department said Wednesday it has the Fisher-Price Power Wheels Dune Racer in its custody and will be returned to owners.

The Dune Racer was left outside Butterfield School, 1441 Lake Street, at around 3.40pm on May 15 while the two 4-year-olds were playing in the school playground with their babysitter.

School surveillance video shows a woman pulling up in a blue 2018 or 2019 Volkswagen Jetta.

The woman walked over to the Dune Racer and carried it to her car where she made several unsuccessful attempts to load it into the Volkswagen.

She eventually managed to put the toy car in her trunk before driving away with the trunk open and the toy car sticking out of it.

The Libertyville Police Department asked for the public’s help in identifying the woman last week. On Wednesday, police thanked those who shared videos and tips with them in the case.

It is not known whether the suspect has been charged or has already been identified.
