Little trains, open theater: JP Park will have a facelift by the end of the year

The BBMP could complete the renovation works at JP Park, which is estimated to cost Rs 37 crore, by the end of December.

During an inspection of various works in the RR Nagar area, Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath visited the park and ordered officials to complete the works on the theater in three months.

He also reviewed the ongoing works at Lake Mallathahalli at an estimated cost of Rs 59 crore. Some of the works proposed on this lake include the construction of a compound wall, a greenhouse, a floating bridge, a small train and a parking lot.

Despite strong resistance to turning the body of water into a tourist attraction, city officials went ahead with the project, investing by far the largest sum of money in a lake renovation project.

The Chief Commissioner also ordered Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials to demolish an illegal building (hotel) being constructed over a storm sewer. He asked officials to clean up all drain encroachments.

The BBMP’s plan to widen the Uttarahalli Main Road by 3.5 km (Kengeri to Kanakapura Main Road) was also reviewed during the inspection. The project has stalled due to land acquisition issues.

Girinath ordered officials to give transferable development rights (TDRs) to land losers to clear bridges for the widening project.

During the inspection, the Chief Commissioner also looked at the white pavement of Mysuru Road towards Bangalore University. He also inspected the ongoing construction of a dry waste collection center in Ullal district at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore.

Transfer stations

Three years ago, the BBMP announced the establishment of 50 transfer stations to transfer waste from automatic skips to compactors that go to landfills or treatment plants.
