We Are Ridgeview: A community tells its story

Community members will share stories and memories of the Ridgeview community and how it has shaped and continues to influence them at the Ridgeview Branch Library on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The goal is to connect community, people and common causes. A performance by members of the Ridgeview Sliders will follow. This event is part of a larger Juneteenth celebration taking place in Catawba County.

The Ridgeview Branch Library is located at 706 First St. SW at the corner of First Street and Seventh Avenue SW, adjacent to the Ridgeview Recreation Center. All library programs are free and open to the public.

June 19 outdoor game and party

The Morning Star Baptist Church will hold a June 19 celebration on Saturday. There will be vendors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a free dinner served at 5 p.m.

At 5:30 p.m., the Morning Star Players will perform “Are We Really Free?”

Musical festival on June 16 at Brasserie CBV

The Funk Connection is partnering with CBV Brewery and Taproom to host a musical celebration featuring local black musicians in honor of Juneteenth. The event is scheduled for Friday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The celebration will feature blues, jazz and R&B. It will take place at 116 WA St., Newton.

Make an Octopus Plush

Learn how to sew a reversible octopus plush as seen on viral videos all over the internet! This program will be held twice, Thursdays from 2-4 p.m. at the Patrick Beaver Memorial Library and June 23 from 2-4 p.m. at the Ridgeview Branch Library. “Oceans of Possibilities” in crafting with children

The Patrick Beaver Public Library’s summer learning program will explore “oceans of possibility” in crafts with children, from flexible fish to sand art to decorating seashells. Check the library’s online calendar to register individually for these events. Registration opens 2 weeks before the event and the number of places is limited.

• Friday at 11 am: Sand Art — making beautiful fish with colored sand.

• July 14 at 11 a.m.: Paper Fish Craft — create flexible 3D colored fish with paper.

• August 4 at 2 pm: Seashell Art — design and decorate a seashell with acrylic paint and paint pens.
